Helpful Tips:
Check your college or university’s financial aid website to see bursaries and scholarships specific to your institution. Check this regularly even once you are enrolled as scholarships and bursaries are added throughout the year. If you want more support with this process, you can call your university or college financial aid department or attend in person if you can.
Always apply for OSAP, even if you don’t think you want a loan. OSAP provides significant bursaries to those who have been or are currently in care. If you do not want a loan, you have the option to check a box in the application process that says “grant only”. If you need additional support with this, call your college or university’s financial aid department.
If you are currently working, check with your workplace to see if they offer any bursaries. If you are a part of any clubs or teams, check if they offer any bursaries, too. You should also check with your high school - all of these connections may offer post-secondary financial support.
Through OECT, you can access a mentor that can support you with any of these applications. These mentors were also previously in care and are now in post-secondary, so have had to go through this same process. If this interests you, either talk to your worker or click here:
